The sounds and tastes of Africa came to Hackney, as Shoreditch celebrated Africa '06 with a spectacular event in Haggerston Park.

The rain did not dampen the afternoon of enjoyment, laughter, singing, eating, dancing and fun for all the whole family.

Spirits were high and this was surely London’s liveliest African gathering of 2006

featuring:-
Live bands, street dance act, African hip-hop star, and acrobats dazzled and showed the variety of African culture.
The crowd was structed and delighted by the force of the live acts on both the main stage and the Hackney Finest Stage.

Heavy sets from Inemo, Kasai Masai and festival favourites Soukous Koumbele announced to the crowd the brillance and range of contempoary African beats and rhythms.

Vistors to the event were inspired by the cutting-edge sounds from Breis, KMT and the NU-MCs and African China .

The glue behind the stages were E.DD.IE, DJ Edu (BBC 1 Xtra), DJ Muchi (Hoza Africa!), and DJ Dale, all of whome spent the whole day keeping hte crowd informed, interested and engaged.

New comers to the scene such as Fae Simon, De Indispensables,
Zita K and 841 took the stage by storm.

The festival would have been nothing without the colour, vibrancy, noise and energy of our African market featuring over sixty stalls offering clothes, books, games, accessories, ornaments and lots of mouth-watering food from across the continent.

Everybody was blown away by the acrobatic stunts from the Obonu Dance Ensemble and enjoyed the djembe drumming and African dance classes.
